    Fasting Blood Sugar Test

Determining your blood sugar level is perhaps your key to understanding the symptoms you have been sustaining for some time now. Whether it be hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia, a blood sugar test will provide you with data that will confirm your current health condition with regards to the amount of glucose content of your blood.

There are a lot blood sugar tests obtainable for one: a.) FBS or Fasting Blood Sugar Test, b.) Random Blood Sugar Test, c.) Oral Glucose Tolerance Test and d.) A1C test.

Usually the initial regimen to find out whether an individual has diabetes is FBS or Fasting Blood Sugar Test. Fasting blood sugar test is conducted to a patient with at least 8 hours of no eating. One is only permitted to take in water - no food and other drinks. This can be also called fasting blood glucose. Glucose as we know it's the simplest form of sugar. It is also the major source of energy for our bodies.

Experiencing symptoms that lean towards diabetes, FBS may be scheduled right away. A blurred vision, excessive weight loss, difficulty in wound restoring and excessive thirst/hunger are signs of diabetes. Make certainly you confer your doctor and ask of the important measures you should take.

Diabetes springs up when either the pancreas is not able to produce ample insulin levels to lower blood sugar levels of the body, or it does produce ample of it but does not work as it's supposed to.

Get prepared for the fasting blood sugar test. You can ask your doctor for details - especially if you're taking other medications. Physicians can guide you on needs for proper preparation before undergoing such tests.

The regimen involved in fasting blood sugar test starts with placing a rubber strap around your arm. The portion of the skin where blood specimen would be taken - would be cleaned with alcohol. A minute needle joined with a test tube would be put into a vein for sample blood collection. The special tube has a suction for pulling the blood into it - and when it's already full - the needle & rubber strap are removed. A piece of cotton would be pressed on the area of the skin affected. This is important to cease the bleeding.

For this type of blood sugar testing - FBS or fasting blood sugar - a result of lower than 100 mg/dL is considered normal. If your result is between 100 mg/dL to 125 mg/dL, you're considered to have impaired fasting glucose or what is called prediabetes - though the medical advise from the doctor may still have to conduct successive testing for confirmation. If the result is 126 mg/dL and above, especially if accompanied by signs & symptoms of having high glucose sugar content of the blood - may suggest that you have diabetes. Confirmatory tests may be done as well for this case, unlike when your reading is higher than 200 mg/dL wherein a confirmatory test may no longer be necessary.
